Wydad goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid handed two-match suspension

Wydad Athletic Club goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid has been handed a two-match suspension by the Professional Football League’s Disciplinary Committee, ruling him out of Sunday’s encounter against Amal Tiznit.

The suspension comes ahead of the fourth round of the Moroccan National Professional Football Championship, with Wydad scheduled to host Amal Tiznit at the Mohammed V Complex.

According to Radio Mars, Benabid was sanctioned for using obscene and unsportsmanlike language during Wydad’s recent match against Difaâ El Jadida.

Moghreb Athletic Fes defender Marouane Ohro received the same punishment following his side’s match against Raja Casablanca.

Disciplinary committee sanctions players

Both players were handed two effective matches after their conduct was recorded in the official reports submitted by the referees and match observers.

The sanctions underline the disciplinary authorities’ efforts to address verbal abuse and unsporting behaviour in Moroccan football.

Players are expected to maintain appropriate standards of conduct on the pitch and demonstrate respect for match officials, opponents, supporters and the wider sporting community.

Wydad forced to plan without Benabid

Benabid’s suspension presents a selection challenge for Wydad’s technical staff as they prepare for Sunday’s fixture against Amal Tiznit.

The club must now identify a replacement for the goalkeeper while seeking to maintain their momentum in the league campaign.

Moghreb Athletic Fes will also be without Ohro for the duration of his suspension, forcing their technical team to adjust its defensive options.

Both clubs will hope to navigate the absences as the Moroccan championship continues.
