Wydad Athletic Club turn to Yahya Jabrane in latest summer transfer move

Wydad Athletic Club have re-signed former captain Yahya Jabrane on a one-year contract as the Moroccan club continue their summer squad-building programme ahead of the upcoming season.

The move is designed to add experience and stability to the squad, with Wydad welcoming back a player who already has extensive knowledge of the club, its footballing culture and the expectations surrounding the team.

According to Moroccan website Al Botola, the club have placed particular value on Jabrane’s familiarity with the environment at Wydad and believe his return can provide an important boost to the group. His experience is also expected to help the team pursue its ambitions and deliver the success supporters are hoping for.

Jabrane’s return represents the latest step in an active transfer window for Wydad, whose new board is working to reshape the squad before the next set of domestic and continental commitments.

Contract renewals a priority

Alongside their recruitment activity, Wydad’s new management have made the renewal of several key players’ contracts one of their most urgent priorities.

Goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid and right-back Mohamed Mofid are among the players whose agreements are due to expire at the end of next season. The club are keen to settle their futures as quickly as possible and avoid allowing them to reach the stage at which they can legally negotiate freely with rival clubs.

Failure to reach agreements could leave Wydad at risk of losing important members of the squad without receiving a transfer fee in return.

Supporters are following the discussions closely, particularly those involving Benabid. The goalkeeper was one of the team’s standout performers during the previous campaign and established himself as one of the most prominent and popular figures in the squad.

His performances have earned him a special place among Wydad fans, who are waiting for an outcome to the negotiations over his continued stay at the club.

Three more additions announced

Wydad had already confirmed the arrival of three new players on the previous Saturday as part of their broader rebuilding plan.

The leading name among that group was goalkeeper Rachid Ghanimi, who joined from Fath Union Sport on a three-year contract. Aymen Hassouni and Hamza Jan Allah were also announced as new additions to the squad.

Those signings, together with Jabrane’s return, underline the scale of the club’s efforts to refresh the team and improve its competitiveness across all fronts.

The new board’s transfer strategy is focused on creating a balanced squad that combines experienced players with younger talent. Wydad’s intention is to assemble a team capable of challenging strongly for domestic and continental honours, while delivering the trophies their supporters have been waiting for.

Jabrane’s arrival therefore provides both a familiar presence and additional leadership as Wydad prepare for the demands of the forthcoming season. His one-year deal adds another experienced figure to a squad already being reshaped through a combination of new signings and efforts to retain key players.
