Tonny Vilhena, the 31-year-old Netherlands and Angola midfielder, has joined Willem II from Panathinaikos ahead of the new Eredivisie season.
The central midfielder’s move was completed on 26 August 2026, with his contract at Willem II running until 30 June 2027. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the switch.
Vilhena arrives in the Netherlands after spending the previous season with Panathinaikos, where he was part of the Greek Cup-winning squad in 2024. He had also spent time on loan at Alanyaspor during the 2024-25 campaign before returning to the Greek club.
The move brings Vilhena back to Dutch football after seven years abroad. He left Feyenoord for Russian side Krasnodar in 2019 in a €9m transfer, having established himself in the Rotterdam club’s first team after progressing through its youth system.
During his time with Feyenoord, Vilhena won the Eredivisie title in 2017, two Dutch Cups and two Dutch Super Cups. He also won the Dutch Under-17 title and the Under-21 Eredivisie with the club’s youth sides.
Vilhena’s early international success came with the Netherlands Under-17 team, helping them win the European Under-17 Championship in 2011 and 2012. He finished as the tournament’s leading scorer in the 2011 edition after scoring three goals.
The left-footed midfielder later continued his career in Spain and Italy, joining Espanyol from Krasnodar before spending the 2022-23 season on loan at Salernitana. He returned to Espanyol before completing a €3m transfer to Panathinaikos in July 2023.
Vilhena is 1.75m tall and is listed primarily as a central midfielder. His arrival gives Willem II an experienced player with domestic honours in both the Netherlands and Greece as the club prepares for its Eredivisie campaign.
The transfer was completed on 26 August 2026, and Vilhena is contracted to Willem II until the end of June 2027.
