Wilfried Singo set for Galatasaray return after international break

Galatasaray defender Wilfried Singo is expected to return to action after the next international break as the Turkish club takes a cautious approach to the Ivory Coast international’s recovery from injury.

Singo has been sidelined since the beginning of the season and has had little opportunity to establish himself in Galatasaray’s defence. Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported on Saturday that the 25-year-old is now nearing a return.

However, Galatasaray are not planning to rush the defender back into competitive football. The club intends to allow Singo enough time to recover fully before gradually reintroducing him to first-team action.

Singo has played only 41 minutes for Galatasaray since the campaign began, making two appearances.

His limited involvement represents a disappointing start for a player who was expected to become an important part of the Istanbul club’s defence. Instead, his injury interrupted his preparations and prevented him from settling into the team as planned.

The upcoming international break is expected to provide Singo and Galatasaray with additional time to prepare for his comeback.

Rather than taking unnecessary risks with the defender’s recovery, the club would prefer to ensure he is ready before increasing his workload and returning him to competitive matches.

Singo’s absence has also attracted attention in Turkey beyond his injury situation, with reports already beginning to focus on his future at Galatasaray.

Turkish media have linked the defender with a possible departure during the January transfer window. Reports suggest Galatasaray could consider moving Singo on, along with midfielders İlkay Gündoğan and Kaan Ayhan.

There has, however, been no official confirmation from Galatasaray that Singo will leave the club.

For now, the reports remain transfer speculation rather than an announced decision over the player’s future.

The immediate objective for Singo is therefore to regain full fitness and return to the pitch.

His limited playing time this season means that securing regular minutes will be particularly important once he is available again. After making only two appearances and spending just 41 minutes on the field, the defender has yet to build the consistent run of matches that could allow him to establish himself at Galatasaray.

The club’s decision to adopt a gradual approach reflects its desire to avoid compromising his recovery by bringing him back too quickly.

Singo’s return after the international break would give Galatasaray another defensive option while also providing the Ivorian with an opportunity to revive his interrupted season.

For the player, the focus is currently on football rather than the speculation surrounding January.

Before any decision is made about a potential transfer, Singo needs to regain his fitness and demonstrate his readiness on the pitch.

The international break could therefore prove important in his rehabilitation, giving him further time to prepare while allowing Galatasaray to manage his return carefully.

Although questions have already been raised about whether the club could part company with him in January, no such decision has been formally announced.

For now, Singo remains a Galatasaray player and is working towards a return following a frustrating opening to the season.

If his recovery progresses as expected, the 25-year-old could be back in competitive action after the international break, with the club determined to make sure his comeback is handled gradually rather than rushed.
