‘Why not the top two?’ – Sangaré sets bold Brentford targets

Malian midfielder Mamadou Sangaré says Brentford’s well-organised structure and manager Keith Andrews’ clear plans for his role persuaded him to join the club, as he targets further progress with a side currently fourth in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old, who impressed at French club RC Lens before moving to England, believes Brentford offered the right environment to develop his game and establish himself at the highest level.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sangaré described the club’s approach as a major factor in his decision, explaining that the organisation he encountered stood out from his experiences with other teams.

“It was incredible. It was the first time I had seen something like that. I went to a few clubs, but I had never seen an approach like that.

“Brentford has a well-organized structure. It’s something I had never seen before, it really pushed me to choose this club.”

The Mali international also highlighted his conversations with Andrews, saying the manager explained his tactical approach and the contribution he expected from the midfielder.

“I had a positive and detailed discussion with the coach. He showed me his style of play and what he expected from me.

“I’m a bit different from the other players because I have a different vision of things.

“For me, Brentford was the best option, as a young player who still needs to prove himself at the highest level.”

Sangaré’s decision has coincided with a promising period for Brentford, who have climbed to fourth in the Premier League.

His debut against Tottenham also attracted praise from pundit Jamie Redknapp, who believes the midfielder has the ability to play for a club competing in the top four.

However, the Malian has faced a fresh challenge after being left on the bench for consecutive matches against Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Those omissions have tested his ability to maintain his place in the team, but he remains determined to respond through hard work.

“I just need to keep working and do even more than the others,” he said.

His comments underline his determination to establish himself in English football while helping Brentford sustain their impressive form.

Rather than becoming discouraged by the recent changes in his playing time, Sangaré says he is focused on improving and proving his value to the team.

The midfielder is also confident that Brentford can aim higher than simply securing a place among the Premier League’s leading clubs.

“Why couldn’t we reach the top four, or even the top two?” he asked.

The ambition reflects Sangaré’s belief in the quality of Brentford’s squad and the work being done by Andrews.

With the team currently fourth, he sees no reason why they should not challenge more established sides if they maintain their level of performance.
