Seventeen-year-old Alassana Bagayogo is attracting growing interest from European clubs after making an impression in Burkina Faso’s top flight and on the international stage.
The versatile winger, who can operate across the attacking line, has already built a reputation well beyond his home country. He is known by the nickname “Petit Messi” – a reflection of the expectations surrounding a player who is still at the beginning of his career.
Bagayogo is already playing first-division football in Burkina Faso with AJEB, whose presidency is held by former Burkina Faso internationals Bertrand Traore and Alain Traore. Their experience and standing in the game could provide the young player with an important platform as he looks to establish himself.
On the pitch, Bagayogo has impressed with his physical power, movement and ability to play in several attacking positions. Those attributes have helped make him one of the emerging young players attracting increased attention from scouts.
International experience at a young age
Despite being only 17, Bagayogo already has 17 appearances for Burkina Faso Under-17s. He represented his country at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Under-17 tournament in Morocco before also featuring at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar.
His most recent impact came with the Under-20 side. During a qualifying tournament for the Africa Cup of Nations Under-20, Bagayogo played a significant role in Burkina Faso’s final victory over Nigeria.
The Etalons won the match 4-1, with Bagayogo scoring one goal and providing an assist. His contribution earned him the award for Player of the Match and further strengthened his reputation as one of Burkina Faso’s most promising young attackers.
European interest growing
Bagayogo’s successive performances have not gone unnoticed by clubs outside Africa. According to Foot Mercato, French club Sochaux are among the teams interested in his profile.
The teenager has already taken part in several trials abroad. He has spent time with Auxerre in France and has also had an opportunity in Switzerland. A further spell in Scandinavia is scheduled to take place soon.
His path reflects an increasingly familiar route for promising African players: first establish themselves in domestic football, then seek an opportunity in Europe. Bagayogo has already gained experience in senior football and represented Burkina Faso at three youth levels of international competition, giving him a foundation that many players his age are still working towards.
The next step will be to determine which club moves first to secure his services. Sochaux have been identified as one interested party, while his previous trials and planned visit to Scandinavia suggest that the competition for his signature could develop further.
Whatever destination he chooses, Alassana Bagayogo is now a player being watched closely. His performances for AJEB, his strength and versatility in attack, and his decisive contribution against Nigeria have ensured that the Burkina Faso winger’s progress will be followed by clubs and observers in Europe and beyond.
