Nigerian striker George Ilenikhena could be set for a return to European football just months after joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, with Premier League club West Ham United among several teams monitoring his situation.
West Ham have made enquiries about the availability of the 19-year-old forward, while German side Schalke 04 and Italian outfit Genoa are also keeping tabs on the youngster.
The growing interest comes after an impressive pre-season campaign by Ilenikhena, whose rapid rise over the past three years has established him as one of the most promising young forwards with African roots.
Although the Nigerian-born attacker only joined Al-Ittihad in February 2026, reports suggest the Saudi Arabian club could be willing to sanction a loan move, with an option to buy, should the right opportunity arise.
For West Ham, the search for attacking reinforcements continues as the club considers strengthening its squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Hammers are yet to make a signing but are understood to have financial flexibility following the departures of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville, with new attacking options among their priorities.
Ilenikhena’s profile appears to fit that search.
Despite being only 19 years old, the striker has already experienced football in France, Belgium, Saudi Arabia and European competition, building a reputation as a quick, physically strong and clinical finisher.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2006, Ilenikhena moved to France at the age of three, where he developed through the country’s youth football system.
His breakthrough came after joining Amiens in 2021.
In 2023, he made headlines by becoming the youngest goalscorer in Ligue 2 history after finding the net against Bordeaux, an achievement that immediately attracted attention from clubs across Europe.
After making 18 senior appearances and scoring twice for Amiens, the striker secured a move to Belgian side Royal Antwerp for a reported fee of around €6 million.
The transfer proved to be another important step in his development.
During his time in Belgium, Ilenikhena scored 14 goals in 50 appearances across all competitions, performances that convinced Ligue 1 side AS Monaco to invest in his potential.
Monaco completed his signing in 2024 for a reported €18.75 million.
His progress continued in France, where he established himself in one of Europe’s leading leagues while also enjoying memorable moments on the continental stage.
Among the highlights of his spell at Monaco was scoring against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, further enhancing his growing reputation as one of Africa’s brightest young attacking talents.
His displays eventually persuaded Al-Ittihad to move for him during the 2026 winter transfer window.
The Saudi Pro League club signed him for a reported €33 million as a replacement for Karim Benzema, underlining the confidence they had in his long-term potential.
However, only months after making that move, speculation has emerged over another transfer.
Reports indicate that Ilenikhena is keen on returning to Europe but is not prepared to rush into a decision over the next step in his career.
That measured approach could allow interested clubs sufficient time to assess whether a move is feasible before the transfer window closes.
