“We will not abandon our responsibility” – Al-Hilal Vice president speaks

Al-Hilal Omdurman vice president Mohamed Ibrahim Al-Aliqi has confirmed he will continue in his role until the end of the current administration’s term, reversing an earlier decision to step away from sports administration.

The announcement follows the club’s elimination from the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, where they were defeated by RS Berkane. The result prompted significant reaction among supporters and led to uncertainty over the club’s leadership structure.

Speaking in an interview, Al-Aliqi said the management team had decided to remain in place to avoid disruption during a critical stage of the season. He emphasised that the current administration would fulfil its responsibilities until a new leadership takes over.

“We will not abandon our responsibility”

Addressing supporters directly, Al-Aliqi outlined the reasons behind his decision to stay, stating:
“We will bear full responsibility and perform our duty until the new administration takes over. We are less than 3 months away from the end of our term, and we will respect our commitments to the club and our complete dedication to the duties as dictated by our conscience.”

He added that the club’s leadership is focused on maintaining organisational stability and ensuring that decisions are made in the best interests of Al-Hilal during the final phase of their tenure.

“We will commit to making decisions that serve the best interests of the club, as well as providing teamwork based on institutionalism and the distribution of responsibilities, especially since the upcoming period before the end of the current administration’s term is crucial and the team will face difficult challenges with its important local commitments, which requires increased focus in an effort to achieve the best results, as we have done during our work period that has lasted for years and witnessed a clear leap forward, during which we were keen to avoid justifications and respect the aspirations of our fans.”

Confidence in domestic success

Despite the disappointment on the continental stage, Al-Aliqi expressed strong confidence in the team’s ability to maintain its dominance in domestic competitions. He pointed to the quality of the squad and the support structure around it as key factors.

“I trust the team’s stars and the technical and administrative staff to retain the Sudanese league title , and we also want to achieve an honorary title in the Rwandan league.”

Reflecting on the Champions League exit, he suggested the team had come close to progressing further in the competition.

“The team performed brilliantly and we were on the verge of reaching the semi-finals of the African Champions League. Everyone witnessed what happened. We were clearly wronged at a crucial time. We do not want to go back to the past. We must finish our term successfully until the moment of handover to the new administration.”

Crucial fixtures ahead

Al-Hilal now face a demanding end to the season, with seven rounds remaining in the Rwandan league before returning to Sudan to compete in the Elite League phase of the domestic championship, which is set to begin in mid-May.

The decision by the club’s leadership to remain in place is intended to provide continuity during this period, as the team seeks to conclude the campaign on a positive note.

With administrative stability restored for now, attention will shift back to on-field matters, where Al-Hilal aim to translate their domestic ambitions into tangible success before the current leadership hands over control.
