Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso says his side’s loss of concentration proved costly as they were beaten 1-0 by Golden Arrows in the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final.
Sede Junior Dion scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, giving Golden Arrows a narrow advantage ahead of the return fixture.
Sundowns started the match positively and controlled much of the early action, but Cardoso believes the momentum changed after Golden Arrows were forced to replace their goalkeeper.

The Portuguese coach said the interruption affected Sundowns’ rhythm and left his players unable to maintain their focus.
“I think we have a good start first 20 minutes until the substitution of the goalkeeper from Golden Arrows,” he said on SuperSport TV.
“That took us little bit out of the rhythm of the game. We were okay seven minutes to make a substitution and then we fall asleep.
“We fell asleep until halftime, completely asleep.”
Cardoso was particularly disappointed with the manner in which Sundowns conceded the opening goal, believing it followed a series of errors similar to those made during their previous match against Kaizer Chiefs.
The coach said Sundowns lost possession, failed to maintain their defensive organisation and then made another mistake when dealing with an opposing player.
“And out of the mistakes, similar to the one we did in the match against [Kaizer] Chiefs where we see we lose the ball, we’re not positioned for the defence and we still make a mistake by jumping a player in the front we suffer a goal,” he said.
Golden Arrows took advantage of the lapse to claim the lead before half-time, leaving Sundowns with a difficult task in the second leg.
Cardoso, however, does not believe the tie has been decided.
Instead, he wants his players to learn from the mistakes that allowed Golden Arrows to take control of the semi-final.
The Sundowns coach warned that his team cannot expect to dominate matches consistently if defensive lapses continue to result in goals.
“It’s time to learn how to deal with these situations, otherwise you cannot continue to dominate the game and suffer from a simple action.”
