Vozinha sets record with World Cup jersey auction

Despite Cape Verde’s exit from the World Cup, goalkeeper Vozinha has continued to attract attention, this time for an achievement away from the football field after one of his match-worn jerseys was sold for a record-breaking fee at auction.

The signed shirt worn by the Cape Verde international during his country’s 0-0 World Cup draw against Saudi Arabia fetched €11,116 (approximately 65,575 Brazilian reais) on the specialist auction platform MatchWornShirt, setting a new benchmark for goalkeeper jerseys sold through the service.

The winning bidder was a supporter based in the United States, bringing an end to an auction that generated widespread international interest. According to the auction details, the sale attracted 59 bids from participants representing 16 different countries, including Brazil.

The final sale price surpassed previous records achieved by shirts worn by some of the world’s most recognisable goalkeepers.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson previously held a higher benchmark with a jersey that sold for 59,044 Brazilian reais, while Germany captain Manuel Neuer’s shirt reached 52,722 Brazilian reais. Vozinha’s match-worn and signed shirt exceeded both figures, making it the most valuable goalkeeper jersey sold on the platform.

The shirt was worn during Cape Verde’s scoreless draw with Saudi Arabia at the World Cup, a match that ended 0-0. Although Cape Verde’s campaign ultimately concluded with the team’s elimination from the tournament, interest in memorabilia linked to the goalkeeper has remained strong.

The auction’s global reach highlighted the level of attention generated by the sale, with dozens of bids arriving from across several countries before the final price was confirmed.

The record-breaking purchase means Vozinha has established a new milestone for goalkeeper memorabilia on MatchWornShirt. The achievement also places the Cape Verde international ahead of notable names such as Alisson and Neuer in terms of the highest-priced goalkeeper shirt sold through the platform.

The jersey was also signed by the goalkeeper, adding to its appeal for collectors and supporters seeking unique pieces connected to the World Cup.

The successful bidder, identified only as a supporter from the United States, secured the shirt after the competitive auction concluded following interest from buyers across multiple continents.

While Cape Verde’s World Cup journey has come to an end, the sale ensures Vozinha remains in the spotlight. The record achieved through the auction represents another notable chapter in the goalkeeper’s story, this time away from competitive action.

With the €11,116 sale, Vozinha now holds the record for the highest-priced goalkeeper jersey sold on MatchWornShirt, underlining the demand for memorabilia associated with the Cape Verde international and marking a new high point for goalkeeper collectibles on the specialist auction platform.
