Villarreal are considering whether to continue with Inigo Perez, with the club expected to review his position during the November international break.
The 6-0 home defeat by defending European champions PSG has increased the pressure on the 38-year-old, who only took charge in Castellon a few months ago. Club owner Fernando Roig is now assessing whether a change is needed despite Perez having signed a three-year contract.
The result against PSG was the latest setback in a difficult start to the season. Perez has won only three of Villarreal’s 11 LaLiga matches and has guided them to one victory from four games in Europe.
Villarreal appointed Perez after Marcelino decided not to extend his contract at the end of last season. The club then chose to move in a new direction, bringing in the former Rayo Vallecano manager.
Perez had built a strong reputation at Rayo Vallecano, taking the club to the UEFA Conference League final in May. His work in Vallecas led Villarreal to offer him the opportunity to manage in the Champions League.
That ambition has yet to be matched by results. Villarreal are due to host Getafe at the weekend, and a positive outcome could ease the immediate pressure on Perez.
However, the club are expected to use the November international break to consider their next step carefully.
