Valencia are in negotiations with Liverpool over a possible loan move for Harvey Elliott, according to The Athletic’s Liverpool correspondent James Pearce.
The Spanish club are assessing Elliott as they look to strengthen their attacking options, although he is one of several candidates under consideration rather than their only target.
Elliott, 23, was left out of Liverpool’s squad for the opening two Premier League matches of the season. His position at the club is uncertain after spending the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa.
The England midfielder’s Liverpool contract runs until 2028, meaning any temporary move would not affect his long-term agreement with the Premier League club. However, his omission from the first two matchday squads has prompted further questions over where he fits into Liverpool’s plans.
Elliott has already spoken to Valencia manager Ruben Corberan about the part he could play in the team if a move to Spain is completed. Those discussions have given the player an indication of how he might be used by the Spanish side, while negotiations between the two clubs continue.
Valencia have confirmed that Elliott is among the attacking players being considered as they attempt to improve their options in that area of the squad. No agreement has yet been announced, and the talks remain ongoing.
The player has also attracted interest from clubs in Italy, giving him alternatives as he considers his next step. Liverpool’s willingness to allow him to leave on loan and the terms of any potential deal have not been disclosed.
Elliott joined Liverpool as a highly regarded young player and remains under contract at Anfield until 2028. His spell with Aston Villa during the 2024-25 season was the latest stage of his development, but he has not been selected for Liverpool’s first two Premier League fixtures this season.
Valencia’s interest adds another possible destination to the 23-year-old’s future. For now, the club are continuing to consider a number of attacking targets, with Elliott’s previous conversation with Corberan offering a potential route to a move should discussions with Liverpool progress.
