Ghanaian striker Yassin Mohammed has moved to Belgium to continue his development after joining KAA Gent on loan from Swedish club Malmö FF.
The 19-year-old forward will spend the season with Gent after the two clubs agreed a loan deal that includes an option for the Belgian side to buy him permanently.
Mohammed’s loan runs until 1 July 2027, giving him the opportunity to gain experience in Belgian football after making his move to Europe from Ghana’s WAFA Academy.
He will initially play for Jong KAA Gent, the club’s reserve side, which competes in the Belgian second division.
For Mohammed, the move represents another step in a young career that has already taken him from Ghana’s football academy system to Sweden and now Belgium.
The striker joined Malmö FF’s Under-19 team in the summer of 2025, moving from the WAFA Academy at the age of 18.
He made an immediate impression in Sweden, scoring seven goals in 11 appearances during his first six months in the P19 Allsvenskan.
His goalscoring form continued this year, with four goals in as many matches in the same competition.
Mohammed also featured for BK Olympic, a partner club of Malmö competing in Ettan Södra, Sweden’s third division, and scored three goals for the side.
He had been sent on loan to BK Olympic during the current season as part of his development before the opportunity to move to Belgium emerged.
One of his notable moments came during Malmö’s general rehearsal for the Allsvenskan season, when Mohammed scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Landskrona BoIS.
His performances have now earned him the chance to test himself in a new football environment with KAA Gent.
Gent confirmed the agreement through its official channels, with the Belgian club’s league-leading status providing the backdrop to Mohammed’s move.
The teenager will not immediately join Gent’s senior side. Instead, he is expected to begin with Jong KAA Gent, where he can gain further competitive experience and continue adapting to Belgian football.
The loan agreement also gives Gent the possibility of making the move permanent.
At the end of the loan period, the Belgian club will have the option to buy Mohammed from Malmö FF.
That means the coming season could prove important in determining the next stage of the Ghanaian striker’s career.
Mohammed’s path to Belgium began in Ghana, where he developed at the WAFA Academy before making the move to Malmö in 2025.
His progress in Sweden has included goals at youth level as well as experience with BK Olympic, giving him exposure to different levels of competition.
The move to Gent now offers another opportunity for the young Ghanaian to develop outside his home country.
