Upamecano leaves France camp early after red-card suspension

Dayot Upamecano has left France’s training camp early and returned to Munich after being suspended for Monday’s UEFA Nations League match against Belgium.

The Bayern Munich centre-back was sent off in the 85th minute of France’s 1-1 draw with Italy. He received a second yellow card for a foul on Moise Kean, ruling him out of the team’s next fixture.

The French Football Federation confirmed Upamecano had been allowed to return to his club before the end of the international break.

“Dayot Upamecano, suspended for France’s match against Belgium, has been granted permission to return to his club. He will depart from the Clairefontaine base this morning,” the team said.

Upamecano will now rejoin Bayern Munich and take part in club training ahead of the return to domestic football.

His departure further reduces the size of the France squad. Kylian Mbappe had already returned to Madrid after suffering an injury in Turkey, with France deciding not to call up a replacement for him.

France now have 21 players remaining for the final match of this training camp.

They will host Belgium at the Stade de France on Monday at 8:45 PM. The game will be the final fixture of Zinedine Zidane’s first national-team camp since taking charge.
