Tunisia were held to a 2-2 draw by Botswana at the Stade Hamadi Agrebi in Rades on Monday, surrendering points at home for the second consecutive match in the CAN 2027 qualifiers.
The result came on the second matchday and extended the Carthage Eagles’ run of draws in the competition, despite Tunisia twice taking the lead.
Botswana opened the scoring in the 38th minute when Mohamed Nasraoui inadvertently turned the ball into his own net following a defensive mistake by the hosts.
Tunisia responded quickly, with Hazem Mastouri restoring parity five minutes later. The forward met the opportunity with a well-placed header to make it 1-1.
Mastouri then put Tunisia ahead five minutes after the interval. Showing good awareness in the 50th minute, he capitalised on a favourable situation to score his second goal of the evening and make it 2-1.
The hosts were unable to protect their advantage, however. On the hour mark, Lebogang Ditsile took advantage of a run behind the Tunisian defence before beating the goalkeeper to level the match at 2-2.
Tunisia pressed for a winner during the closing stages and created several dangerous opportunities in front of their home supporters.
They could not find a decisive finish, though, and had to settle for another share of the points.
