Tottenham are continuing work on potential deals for two forwards, with Cody Gakpo of Liverpool and Savinho of Manchester City under consideration, according to CaughtOffside.
The report says Tottenham are pursuing attacking reinforcements and have identified both players as possible targets. However, a move for Savinho is viewed as the more realistic option at this stage because the Brazil international wants to join Tottenham.
That preference is considered an important factor in the London club’s plans. While Tottenham are interested in both forwards, the report indicates that Savinho’s desire to move to the club makes negotiations over his potential transfer appear more achievable.
The situation involving Gakpo is less straightforward. His departure from Liverpool would depend on whether the Merseyside club completes deals for Bradley Barcola and Ibrahima Mbaye.
As a result, any prospect of Gakpo leaving Liverpool is linked to the club’s own transfer activity. Tottenham’s interest in the Netherlands international remains part of its efforts to strengthen the forward line, but his future cannot be separated from Liverpool’s plans to bring in Barcola and Mbaye.
The report does not indicate that either transfer has been completed. Instead, Tottenham are continuing to work on both possibilities, with Savinho currently regarded as the likelier target because of his reported wish to move to north London.
Tottenham will begin the new English Premier League season away from home against Brentford. The fixture will be played on 22 August and will kick off at 19:30 Moscow time.
The opening-day match provides the immediate competitive backdrop to Tottenham’s transfer activity. The club are working on potential additions in attack while preparing for a meeting with Brentford in the first round of the new campaign.
For now, the two situations remain different. Tottenham are exploring the possibility of signing Savinho from Manchester City, with the player’s own preference said to favour the move. Gakpo’s position at Liverpool, meanwhile, is dependent on whether Liverpool can sign Barcola and Mbaye.
The contrasting circumstances leave Savinho as the more attainable of the two options identified in the report. Tottenham’s interest in both players nevertheless underlines the club’s continued focus on strengthening its forward options before the new season begins.
