Tottenham to receive no bonus after Harry Kane wins 2026 Ballon d’Or

Tottenham will not receive any additional payment from Harry Kane’s €100m move to Bayern Munich after the striker won the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

Kane’s achievement has been celebrated by a number of his former Tottenham team-mates, but his contract did not include a clause awarding the London club more money if he claimed football’s most prestigious individual prize.

The England captain became only the fifth English player to win the Ballon d’Or, 25 years after Michael Owen received the award.

Kane scored 73 goals for club and country during the year, helping Bayern Munich secure a domestic league and cup double in Germany. He also played a key role as England reached the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His performances saw him finish ahead of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal in the final voting.

Yamal had helped Barcelona retain their LaLiga title and won the World Cup with Spain, but he was unable to overtake Kane in the Ballon d’Or standings.

Tottenham remain positive about Kane’s success and have acknowledged the significance of his individual honour. However, the terms of the transfer that took him to Bavaria mean the club will not benefit financially from the award.

Bonus clauses linked to Ballon d’Or success have been included in several major transfers. Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid is one example of a deal containing such an arrangement.

No comparable provision was included in Kane’s transfer agreement, meaning Tottenham will receive no extra money despite the striker becoming the latest English winner of the Ballon d’Or.
