Tosin Adarabioyo’s move to Tottenham Hotspur has fulfilled a childhood ambition, after supporters uncovered a 2012 social media post showing that the defender had been a lifelong fan of the club.
On 2 September, attentive Tottenham Hotspur supporters searched through Adarabioyo’s social media history following the completion of his transfer and found a post dating from 18 February 2012. In it, the then-young defender made clear his strong connection with Spurs and described his support for the team.
The post referred to Tottenham’s midfield at the time, highlighting the way Modric, Parker and Van der Vaart supplied regular crosses towards wingers Lennon and Bale, who were scoring frequently.
Adarabioyo wrote: “I guess you won’t be optimistic, but I will definitely support my team, Tottenham Hotspur!”
The discovery quickly added a personal dimension to the defender’s move. Rather than simply joining a new club, Adarabioyo has now arrived at the team he publicly supported more than a decade ago.
Tottenham supporters found the post after Adarabioyo’s transfer had been completed, using his previous social media activity to trace his connection with the club. The wording of the message showed that his support for Tottenham Hotspur was already firmly established in 2012.
The transfer was completed for a fixed fee of £10 million, according to Chelsea reporter Kinsella. A further £2 million is due in add-ons, taking the potential total value of the deal to £12 million.
The social media post has given fans an insight into Adarabioyo’s longstanding admiration for Tottenham’s players. His comments specifically recalled the midfielders Modric, Parker and Van der Vaart, as well as wide players Lennon and Bale, whose goals and attacking play featured prominently in his description of the side.
Adarabioyo’s words also underline how long his support for the club has lasted. Written on 18 February 2012, the message predates his completed transfer by many years and was made when he was discussing Tottenham as a supporter rather than as a player joining the club.
