Torino have officially re-signed Switzerland defender Ricardo Rodriguez on a free transfer, with the 32-year-old agreeing a contract until 30 June 2026 and an option for a further year.
The move marks Rodriguez’s return to Torino after he left the club for Real Betis in the summer of 2024. The Italian club confirmed the agreement on 3 September, describing the deal as a one-year contract with the possibility of extending it for another season.
“Torino Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of player Rodriguez, with both parties signing until June 30, 2026, with an option for a one-year extension.”
Rodriguez was born in Zurich on 25 August 1992 and began his career in the youth system at Zurich. He made his senior debut on 21 March 2010 in a league match against Bellinzona.
During his time with Zurich, Rodriguez made 48 appearances across league and cup competitions, scoring two goals and providing 10 assists. He moved to Wolfsburg in January 2012 and established himself in the Bundesliga with the German club.
Rodriguez played 184 matches in all competitions for Wolfsburg, scoring 22 goals and registering 28 assists. He also won the DFB-Pokal in the 2014-15 season before adding the DFL-Supercup to his honours in the following campaign.
In June 2017, Rodriguez joined AC Milan and continued his career in Serie A. He made 93 appearances for the club in total, contributing four goals and five assists.
The defender spent the 2019-20 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he played six Eredivisie matches. He then moved to Torino in September 2020, beginning a four-season spell with the club.
Across his first period in Turin, Rodriguez made 129 appearances in Serie A and the Coppa Italia combined. He scored once and supplied three assists during that time.
After joining Real Betis in the summer of 2024, Rodriguez featured 34 times during the 2024-25 season in La Liga, the Copa del Rey and European competitions. He provided three assists for the Spanish side.
Rodriguez also brings extensive international experience to Torino. He made his Switzerland debut on 7 October 2011 and has since won 144 caps, scoring nine goals. His international career has included appearances at multiple World Cups.
Torino welcomed the defender back to the club in its official announcement, saying: “All members of Torino Football Club warmly welcome Rodriguez back! We wish him all the best, and Forza Torino!”
