FIFA President Gianni Infantino has praised Moroccan supporters for their passionate backing of the Atlas Lions during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing their presence as one of the memorable features of the tournament.
Morocco reached the quarter-finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with thousands of supporters following the team and maintaining a strong presence throughout their campaign.
Infantino highlighted the energy and commitment of the Moroccan fans, saying their support helped create an atmosphere that added to the spectacle of the tournament.
Writing on Instagram on Sunday, the FIFA president said the supporters maintained their enthusiasm throughout Morocco’s run.
“Moroccan fans displayed exceptional enthusiasm in every 2026 World Cup match they attended,” Infantino wrote.
He added that their backing remained constant as the Atlas Lions advanced through the competition.
“Their continuous support backed their team throughout an unforgettable campaign all the way to the quarter-finals, amid an atmosphere that will remain etched in memory for years to come.”
Morocco’s matches were marked by large groups of red-clad supporters, whose chants and celebrations followed the team from the group stage into the knockout rounds.
The Atlas Lions’ quarter-final appearance also extended their remarkable recent World Cup record.
After becoming the first African team to reach a World Cup semi-final in 2022, Morocco once again progressed deep into the competition, recording knockout victories over the Netherlands and hosts Canada before their campaign ended in the last eight.
Their latest run further strengthened Morocco’s growing reputation on the international stage and ensured their supporters remained a prominent feature of the tournament.
Infantino said the passion displayed by fans such as Morocco’s is central to what makes the World Cup distinctive.
“The World Cup gains its unique character thanks to fans like these, and I thank them for all these moments,” he concluded.
