Tolu Arokodare has publicly rejected reports about an incident at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ training ground, insisting he behaved “professionally” after being told he could not train with the first team.
English media outlets had claimed the 25-year-old Nigeria forward refused to leave the training pitch on Monday when new Wolves head coach Cesar Peixoto informed him he was not currently permitted to work with the senior group.
Those reports said Arokodare ignored the instruction, which allegedly led to the session being halted. The following day, Wolves were reported to have put additional security measures in place at the training base to prevent the striker from rejoining first-team training.
Arokodare has now responded on social media, saying much of what has been written is inaccurate and does not reflect his conduct.
“I was very surprised and disappointed by today’s press reports, many of which are wrong,” he wrote.
“Throughout my career, I have always prided myself on behaving professionally and maintaining the highest training standards.”
Player insists focus remains on Wolves duties
The forward, who joined Wolves from KRC Genk last year for a fee of €26m, stressed that he remains committed to fulfilling his obligations to the club while he is under contract.
“My commitment has always been to prepare myself in the best possible way so that I can contribute to my teammates and the club whenever I am called upon,” he continued.
“I am still under contract with Wolves and my only focus is to fulfil my responsibilities professionally by training, doing my job and contributing to the team.”
Arokodare did not address the specific claim that he refused to leave the pitch, but his statement challenges the overall portrayal of his behaviour around the session and emphasises his desire to be seen as a committed professional.
Wolves have not publicly commented on the incident or on Arokodare’s statement.
Ajax interest amid uncertain future
The situation comes at a time when Arokodare’s future at Molineux already appears uncertain, just a year after his arrival from Belgian side KRC Genk.
Transfer specialist Matteo Moretto reported on Wednesday that Ajax are interested in signing the Nigerian forward. According to that report, Arokodare is expected to leave Wolves after only one season with the Premier League club.
No agreement has been announced and neither club has made any official statement about potential negotiations, but the reported interest from Ajax adds another layer to a week in which the player’s relationship with Wolves has come under scrutiny.
For now, Arokodare maintains that his intention is to continue training and contributing “professionally” while he remains part of the Wolves squad.
