Title fight heats up as Nahhas outlines Al Masry priorities

Emad El Nahhas, head coach of Egyptian side Al Masry, has said his future at the club remains unclear beyond the current campaign, while confirming that Al Ahly will have the final say on whether Omar El Saai continues with the team next season.

Speaking after recently taking charge, Nahhas also addressed the intensity of the domestic title race, describing the competition among Al Ahly, Zamalek and Pyramids as ongoing and closely contested.

The coach indicated that his immediate focus is on improving Al Masry’s league standing and competing for silverware, particularly the League Cup, which he identified as a major target.

“We are trying to do our best to achieve a high ranking. We have a big match against Al-Ahly, and the competition for the league is difficult and strong for us,” Nahhas said.

League Cup ambition and squad preparation

Nahhas stressed the importance of building squad depth as the team approaches a demanding schedule. He highlighted the need to prepare as many players as possible in order to compete effectively on multiple fronts.

“We are preparing the largest number of players and our main goal is to win the League Cup, given the many years in which Al-Masry has not won any championship,” he added.

The League Cup, in particular, represents an opportunity for Al Masry to end a prolonged wait for silverware, a factor that appears central to the club’s strategy for the remainder of the season.

Future remains undecided

Despite his recent appointment, Nahhas acknowledged that his tenure at the club could be short-lived, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

“My contract with Al Masry is until the end of the season, and I don’t know if I will continue next season or not,” he said.

His comments suggest that both the club’s performance and broader strategic considerations may influence any decision regarding his continuation.

El Saai decision rests with Al Ahly

Nahhas also clarified the situation surrounding Omar El Saai, indicating that Al Ahly retains control over the player’s future.

“Al-Ahly Club is in control of Omar Al-Saai’s fate with the team, whether he continues with Al-Masry or returns to the team again. If Al-Ahly does not want to bring the player back, we welcome his continuation with the team in a normal manner,” he explained.

This arrangement leaves uncertainty over the player’s role next season, dependent on decisions made by his parent club.

Title race remains wide open

Nahhas concluded by reflecting on the broader league landscape, noting the unpredictable nature of key fixtures and the competitiveness at the top of the table.

“The matches between Al-Ahly and Zamalek have no standard and a specific focus, and at the moment the three league leaders, Al-Ahly, Zamalek and Pyramids, are in fierce competition to win the title and the competition is still present until this moment.”

With the season approaching its decisive phase, Nahhas’s remarks underline both the challenges facing Al Masry and the uncertainty surrounding key decisions on and off the pitch.
