Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has praised Cameroon international André Onana for his performances and influence at the Turkish club, as discussions over a possible permanent move from Manchester United remain a possibility.
Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan from the English club and has impressed his managers with his displays since arriving in Türkiye.
His contribution has extended beyond his performances on the pitch, with Doğan also highlighting his personality and relationship with supporters.
The Trabzonspor president described the 30-year-old goalkeeper as an important figure at the club and expressed his hope that he would maintain his current form.
“André Onana is a very valuable person and a very good friend. He is an exceptional, friendly personality, and he is the joy of life in the city.
“The fans adore him. We love him very much, and the feeling is mutual. His performances are very good. I hope he continues on this path.”
Doğan’s comments underline the club’s appreciation of the Cameroon international, who has become a popular figure among the team’s supporters.
According to rankings published by Sabah Spor, Onana has recorded 15 crucial saves and an 89.1% save percentage, placing him among the goalkeepers with the fewest goals conceded since the start of the season.
His performances have strengthened his standing at Trabzonspor, with the club considering the possibility of retaining him beyond his loan spell.
Trabzonspor are interested in securing Onana’s services permanently, but any deal will depend on reaching an agreement that satisfies the parties involved.
Doğan has indicated that the final decision will rest with the goalkeeper, while negotiations will also depend on suitable conditions and financial arrangements.
“The final decision will be Onana’s,” the club president said in comments on the prospect of a permanent transfer.
Onana’s form in Türkiye has included an impressive penalty-saving display in the Turkish Cup, alongside regular appearances in the Süper Lig and European competitions.
