Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, who joins the London club as a free agent after completing a successful trial.
The 27-year-old becomes the second new arrival of the summer for Pierre Sage’s side, following the signing of Oscar Mingueza.
Tomiyasu has agreed to join Crystal Palace after impressing during his trial with the club. He will wear number 17 for the London team.
The defender offers versatility across the back line, with the ability to play on either flank as well as in central defence. That range of positions gives Sage another option in several defensive roles as Crystal Palace add to their squad.
Tomiyasu previously spent four years with Arsenal, also based in London. His move to Crystal Palace represents a return to the capital after his spell with the Premier League club.
At international level, Tomiyasu has won 46 caps for Japan. He was also part of the Japan squad that participated in the 2026 World Cup.
Crystal Palace confirmed the transfer on their official website, completing the move after the defender’s successful trial. The club did not disclose any transfer fee because Tomiyasu was available as a free agent.
His arrival follows Mingueza’s move as the second addition made by the club during the summer. Tomiyasu’s ability to cover both wide defensive positions and the centre of defence is now added to the options available to Sage.
The Japanese international’s experience includes four years at Arsenal and 46 appearances for Japan. He now continues his career with Crystal Palace, where he has been assigned the number 17 shirt.
