Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Ecuador international Jhegson Mendez, according to media reports in Ecuador.
The 29-year-old central defensive midfielder is currently with Independiente del Valle, having returned to the Ecuadorian club in 2025. Ecuadorian publication Orbita Deportivo reports that Mendez’s contract is due to expire in December 2026.
Mendez is not keen to sign a new deal, meaning Mamelodi Sundowns are expected to secure his services as a free agent.

He is expected to arrive in January and will undergo a medical before completing the move. If he passes those tests, Mendez is expected to sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Brazilians.
The move would provide Sundowns with a replacement for Jayden Adams, who passed away in Cape Town soon after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Sundowns have not signed a player in Adams’ position since his death and have turned to South America in their search for a replacement.
The South African club will also need to adjust their foreign-player quota before the January transfer window to accommodate Mendez.
Mendez has had two spells with Independiente del Valle and has made 156 official appearances for the club. Although primarily a defensive midfielder, he has contributed four goals and eight assists during his time there.
