Italy’s sporting justice authorities have dismissed the investigation into Gianluca Rocchi and alleged attempts to influence refereeing appointments and VAR decisions, finding no evidence of direct contact between the referee designator and clubs including Inter.
The case had initially drawn comparisons with Calciopoli when it became public in April. Rocchi was formally investigated for sporting fraud, with the inquiry focusing mainly on events during the 2024/25 season.
Prosecutors examined claims that Rocchi had sought to influence decisions made by VAR officials working at the monitoring hub in Lissone, near Milan.

The sporting justice system has now reached the same conclusion, ruling that there was no proof of direct contact between clubs and either Rocchi or his assistant Andrea Gervasoni.
The decision effectively brings the matter to an end unless new evidence emerges, although that is considered unlikely at this stage.
