Senegal national football team has finalized its preparation plan for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduling two crucial friendly matches in the United States and Saudi Arabia.
These warm-up fixtures are designed to test the squad ahead of the global tournament and give the coaching staff a clear view of the team’s readiness.
According to Abdoulaye Fall, president of the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the matches will provide “important opportunities before the FIFA World Cup as a way to protect your football skills.”
The Lions of Teranga will first travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, arriving on 31 May, before moving on to San Antonio, Texas, on 9 June for their clash against Saudi Arabia.
Fall emphasized the benefits of these games, noting that facing opponents with different styles allows the team to fine-tune both technical and tactical approaches.
“These oppositions present various profiles and interests,” Fall said.
“These models offer a more advanced athletic and technical technique, and Saudi Arabia offers a more disciplinary style. Senegal will thus adjust its strategies against different opponents.”
The friendlies are part of a broader strategy to ensure the team is fully prepared for the rigorous challenges of the World Cup.
With the group stage looming, Senegal will enter Group I alongside France, Norway, and Iraq, and Fall sees these matches as an essential step in creating cohesion and sharpening details ahead of the tournament.
The opening match of the group stage pits Senegal against tournament favourites France on 16 June at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
The team then faces Norway on 22 June, again in East Rutherford, before concluding the group stage against Iraq on 26 June in Toronto, Canada.
“The preparation matches allow for the creation of automatisms and the correction of details,” Fall said.
“The Lions will arrive ready to mark the spirits in the World Cup.”
With just weeks remaining before kickoff, all eyes are on the Lions of Teranga as they refine their gameplay and rally the support of African football fans worldwide.
