Senegal forward Dieng hits career high in Lorient draw

Bamba Dieng continued his remarkable scoring run in 2026, but FC Lorient were held to a 1-1 draw by Paris FC in a result that dents their push for European football.

The Senegal international opened the scoring early in the second half, netting in the 54th minute to give Lorient the advantage at the Stade du Moustoir.

His latest strike not only set his team on course for victory but also marked a personal milestone, taking his league tally to eight goals this season, the best return of his career in a single campaign.

Dieng’s goal surpassed his previous record of seven, set during the 2021–2022 season while at Olympique de Marseille, underlining his growth and increasing influence in Ligue 1.

Even more striking is the timing of his form: all eight of his league goals this season have come in 2026, a run that places him among the most in-form attackers in the French top flight this calendar year.

His sharpness was evident from the early stages of the match.

Within two minutes, Dieng found himself in a promising position beyond the Paris FC defence, but his long-range effort failed to find the target.

That chance was followed by a relatively quiet first half, with few clear opportunities for either side.

Lorient defender Abdoulaye Faye came closest before the break, pushing forward to test Paris FC goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who produced a crucial save to keep the scores level.

The breakthrough finally arrived shortly after half-time when Dieng made his mark. Timing his movement well, he capitalised on an attacking phase to fire Lorient ahead and ignite hopes of a vital home win.

However, the visitors responded with determination.

Paris FC found their equaliser in the 74th minute through Marshall Munetsi, whose persistence in the penalty area allowed him to beat goalkeeper Mvogo and head home from close range.

The draw extends Lorient’s unbeaten home run to 12 league matches, a sequence that highlights their resilience but also reflects missed opportunities in their pursuit of a European place.

With six matches remaining, they remain nine points behind the final qualification spot, leaving little margin for error in the closing weeks of the campaign.

The 26-year-old, who has previously represented Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations and played a role in their continental success, is rediscovering his best form at a crucial stage of the season.

His current scoring streak not only boosts Lorient’s attacking threat but also strengthens his case as one of Senegal’s key offensive options heading into future international competitions.
