Senegal defender Mouhamed El Bachir Ngom has completed a move to Belgian club KAA Gent, bringing an end to his six-month stay at Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zurich.
The 26-year-old centre-back has signed a long-term contract with Gent that will keep him at the club until 2031, with the Belgian side strengthening their defensive options ahead of the new season.
For Senegal, the transfer represents another milestone for one of the country’s professionals abroad, as Ngom continues his career in another of Europe’s competitive leagues after making a swift impression in Switzerland.
Grasshopper confirmed the defender’s departure after only half a season, with club president Ludovic Deléchat explaining that the move was driven by both the player’s development and the financial value of Gent’s offer.
Ngom established himself quickly following his arrival and became an important member of the squad in a short period.
The club acknowledged that the Senegalese defender had made significant progress during his time in Zurich, but admitted the proposal from Belgium was too attractive to reject.
Grasshopper also said they were proud of the player’s rapid development and did not want to stand in the way of what they viewed as an important opportunity for his career.
The Swiss club wished Ngom well as he begins the next chapter of his professional journey.
Gent, meanwhile, announced the arrival of the Senegal international as they continue strengthening their squad.
The Belgian club described Ngom as a central defender who will reinforce their back line, while handing him a contract running until 2031.
Speaking after completing the transfer, the defender thanked his former club for the role they played during his brief stay in Switzerland.

Although Ngom spent only six months with Grasshopper, the move underlines how quickly strong performances can create opportunities for African footballers in Europe.
