FC Porto have reached an oral agreement with Milan for the transfer of Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez, with the 25-year-old preparing to change clubs.
The proposed deal would see Gimenez join Porto on a free loan, with the Portuguese club holding an option to make the move permanent for €18m, plus bonuses. The transfer structure could eventually require Porto to buy the player, depending on his amount of playing time and whether he meets the targets included in the agreement.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have settled the main terms of the proposed move. However, the transfer has not yet been completed, and Gimenez is expected to travel to Portugal shortly to finalise the arrangements.
The striker’s possible move comes despite his existing contract with Milan running until 30 June 2029. That long-term agreement means the transfer would initially be arranged as a loan rather than an immediate permanent sale.
Under the terms reported, Porto would have the opportunity to sign Gimenez permanently for a fee of €18m, with additional payments available through bonuses. Whether the option remains voluntary or becomes compulsory will depend on the player’s involvement and the fulfilment of the agreed sporting objectives.
Gimenez is valued at €18m by Transfermarkt, the same figure as the proposed fixed fee in the purchase option. The valuation provides a direct comparison with the terms being discussed between Milan and Porto, although any bonuses would come on top of that amount.
For now, the agreement remains oral, with the next stage expected to be the completion of the formal transfer process in Portugal. Gimenez’s arrival will allow the remaining details of the switch to be concluded before the loan move becomes official.
The Mexico international is therefore set to leave Milan on a temporary basis, while Porto could ultimately secure him on a permanent deal if the conditions linked to appearances and targets are met. His current contract with Milan remains in place until the end of June 2029, but the reported agreement would give Porto a route to take over his registration permanently for €18m plus bonuses.
