England and Ghana defender Brendan Wiredu has joined Salford from Plymouth, giving the League Two club a new centre-back for the 2026-27 campaign.
The 26-year-old London-born defender moves to Salford after spending the previous season with Plymouth, who signed him from Fleetwood in July 2025 for €300,000. Wiredu made one appearance for Plymouth in League One this season before completing his move.
Wiredu is a right-footed central defender who stands 1.91m tall. He began his senior career with Charlton’s under-23 side after progressing through the club’s under-18 set-up, and later spent time on loan at Bromley and Colchester United.
His spell with Colchester became a permanent move in February 2021, before Fleetwood signed him in July 2022. Wiredu then spent three seasons with Fleetwood, making the move to Plymouth ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
At Plymouth, Wiredu was part of a squad competing in League One. His switch to Salford takes him into League Two, with the club adding a defender who has experience across the English Football League.
Wiredu has represented both England and Ghana at nationality level, while his club career has been built entirely in the English game. His most recent competitive appearance came for Plymouth in the opening League One campaign of 2026-27, where he played one minute.
Salford’s new signing joins a squad preparing for its League Two schedule and also becomes eligible for the club’s EFL Cup campaign. The available season figures show no appearances for Plymouth in the EFL Cup before his departure.
Wiredu’s career has included spells with Charlton Under-23s, Bromley, Colchester United, Fleetwood and Plymouth. His latest move continues that progression through the professional divisions, with Salford now his sixth senior club.
The transfer from Plymouth to Salford was completed on 21 August 2026.
