Sadiq marks Valencia return with winner against Elche

Valencia manager Javier Aguirre praised Umar Sadiq after the Nigerian striker made an immediate impact on his return from injury by scoring the goal that secured a 1-0 win over Elche on Sunday.

Sadiq had been out for nearly two months and began the match on the bench. He was introduced in the 61st minute, replacing Pablo Maffeo, and found the decisive finish six minutes later.

The victory was Valencia’s first since Aguirre took charge in September. The Mexican manager said he was pleased to have the Super Eagles forward available again after his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“It’s a joy for everyone,” Aguirre told Valencia’s official website.

The manager also acknowledged that both sides had opportunities during the game, including a chance for Valencia to extend their advantage.

“We also had the 0–2 opportunity, and I don’t know what happened in that play. Elche CF had their chances too. The victory feels good,” he said.

Sadiq’s goal provided a significant boost for Valencia as they ended their wait for a win under Aguirre. His return had been delayed by injury, but he needed only a few minutes on the pitch to settle the match.

Aguirre also looked ahead to Valencia’s next challenge, insisting his players would not need any additional incentive for the fixture.

“We don’t need any extra motivation. We’re playing against one of the best teams, and hopefully we can put in a good performance,” he added.
