Sadio Mané inspires Al-Nassr to crucial victory in title race

Sadio Mané featured prominently as Al-Nassr edged past Al-Ettifaq 1-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Saudi Pro League to eight points.

The Senegal international was heavily involved in the attacking phases throughout the contest, as Al-Nassr laboured to break down a resilient Al-Ettifaq side in a match that required patience and control rather than flair.

The victory, secured by a first-half goal, represents another important step for the league leaders as they push towards what could be a tenth domestic title.

With the season entering its closing stages, every point has become crucial, and this hard-fought win underlines Al-Nassr’s determination to maintain their advantage.

The game began in a subdued fashion, with a slow tempo and early stoppages disrupting momentum.

An incident in the opening minutes saw Mohau Nkota receive treatment following an aerial challenge, briefly halting play and contributing to a cautious start from both sides.

As the match settled, Mané began to assert his presence.

Around the quarter-hour mark, he connected with a forward pass from João Félix and unleashed a powerful effort, but his shot was blocked by the Al-Ettifaq defence.

The forward remained a constant outlet, using his movement and pace to stretch the opposition backline.

Al-Nassr continued to probe, with Mané again trying his luck from distance midway through the first half.

Although his effort was blocked, it reflected the mounting pressure being applied by the home side, who were increasingly dominating possession and territory.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 30th minute.

Cristiano Ronaldo initiated the move with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, forcing a save from goalkeeper Rodak. However, the rebound fell kindly to Kingsley Coman, who reacted quickest to convert and give Al-Nassr the lead.

There was further drama before the interval when Ronaldo went down inside the penalty area under a challenge. A VAR review followed, but no penalty was awarded, allowing Al-Ettifaq to remain within touching distance.

After the break, Al-Nassr continued to control proceedings, though they were unable to add to their advantage.

Mané remained active in the final third, linking play and helping his side maintain pressure, even as clear-cut chances proved limited.

Al-Ettifaq attempted to push forward in search of an equaliser, but Al-Nassr’s defensive organisation held firm.

The contest became increasingly tense in the closing stages, with both teams battling for control.

Late drama saw Jack Hendry shown a red card, further complicating matters for Al-Ettifaq and effectively ending any hopes of a comeback. Al-Nassr saw out the remaining minutes to secure all three points.

The result extends Al-Nassr’s winning run and reinforces their position at the summit of the table.

With an eight-point cushion now established, Mané and his teammates are firmly in control of the title race as the season approaches its conclusion.
