South African coach Rulani Mokwena has won all eight of his official matches in charge of Pyramids FC after extending his perfect record with a 3-2 victory over Al Qanah in the Egypt League Cup on Wednesday night.
The 39-year-old, who moved to Cairo in July, has overseen a highly productive opening spell at the Egyptian club. Pyramids have scored 19 goals, kept five clean sheets and conceded only four during Mokwena’s unbeaten start.
They are also top of the Egyptian Premier League, ahead of established giants Al Ahly and Zamalek, having taken 15 points from 15.
Mokwena’s league campaign began with a 3-0 away win against Ghazl El Mahalla, followed by a 2-0 victory over Abou Qir Fertilizers.
Pyramids then secured a 1-0 success away to Al Masry before recording the same score at home against El Gouna. Their fifth league win came at Eastern Enppi, where they prevailed 2-1.
Mokwena’s results earned him the EPFA Coach of the Month award for August 2026.
His team’s form has continued in continental competition. Pyramids comfortably defeated Kenyan side Gor Mahia 7-1 on aggregate in the CAF Champions League.
They won the first leg 2-0 away from home before completing the tie with a commanding 5-1 victory in the return fixture.
Pyramids’ progress could create a notable South African storyline later in the CAF Champions League. The Egyptian side could potentially face Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates, offering Mokwena the possibility of meeting South African opposition after his time as Sundowns coach.
Pyramids resume their Egyptian Premier League campaign on 12 October, when they host Ceramica Cleopatra FC.
Their attention will then turn back to the CAF Champions League and a two-legged second qualifying-round tie against South Sudanese club El Merreikh FC Bentiu. The first leg will be played away on 16/17 October, with the return match scheduled for 24 October.
Between those two continental fixtures, Pyramids travel to face Tala’ea El Gaish SC in the league on 20 October.
They will complete a demanding month at home against Wadi Degla SC on 29 October.
