Roma join race to re-sign Salah after Liverpool exit

Italian club explores move for Egyptian forward amid global interest

AS Roma have reportedly made contact with Mohamed Salah over a potential return to the club, following confirmation that the forward will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the current season.

The Egyptian international is set to become a free agent in the upcoming summer transfer window, prompting widespread interest from clubs across Europe, as well as from teams in Saudi Arabia and Major League Soccer.

Growing competition for Salah’s signature

Salah’s availability has intensified speculation about his next move, with reports linking him to several high-profile sides including FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Galatasaray SK.

Roma’s approach is understood to be an attempt to bring back a player who previously made a strong impact during his time in Italy. The club is currently pushing for a return to European competition, sitting sixth in Serie A with 54 points, and sees Salah as a potential key addition to strengthen its squad.

However, competition for his signature is expected to be fierce, particularly given the financial strength of clubs outside Europe.

Financial challenges remain significant

Despite their interest, Roma face considerable obstacles in securing a deal. Clubs from Saudi Arabia and the United States are expected to offer lucrative contracts that the Italian side may struggle to match.

Salah is currently reported to earn around 12 million euros annually, meaning any move to Serie A would likely require a substantial reduction in salary. This financial gap represents one of the biggest challenges for Roma as they attempt to negotiate a possible agreement.

Emotional ties and past success

Roma’s strategy appears to rely not only on sporting ambitions but also on Salah’s previous connection to the club. The Egyptian enjoyed a successful spell in the Italian capital, initially joining on loan from Chelsea FC in 2015 before completing a permanent transfer in 2016 for 15 million euros.

During his time with Roma, Salah made 83 appearances across all competitions, scoring 34 goals and providing 21 assists. His performances during that period helped establish him as one of Europe’s most effective attacking players.

The club hopes that these positive memories could play a role in influencing his decision.

Uncertain future as offers mount

Salah has yet to make a final decision regarding his next destination. Reports suggest that the Saudi Pro League is currently leading the race for his signature, viewing him as a potential successor to Cristiano Ronaldo as the face of the competition in the future.

At the same time, interest from MLS and top European clubs ensures that the race remains open, with multiple factors likely to influence the outcome, including sporting ambition, financial considerations and personal preference.

A defining transfer window ahead

As the summer transfer window approaches, Salah’s situation is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched stories in world football. Roma’s entry into the race adds another dimension to an already competitive market.

Whether the Italian club can overcome financial limitations and convince the player to return remains uncertain, but their interest highlights the enduring appeal of Salah’s talent and experience at the highest level of the game.
