Roma are exploring a move for free-agent winger Wilfried Zaha as sporting director Toni D’Amico searches for a new option on the left side, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Giallorossi remain determined to strengthen a position that has proved difficult to fill, with further developments possible in the coming days. Manager Gasperini is seeking a player who can operate using their weaker foot, a quality he believes would add greater variety and attacking threat to Roma’s play.
D’Amico has turned to a number of possibilities after Roma’s attempt to sign Atalanta winger Leweling collapsed. The sporting director has quietly started examining alternatives from a shortlist of wide players, with several experienced names now under consideration.
Zaha is among the most prominent candidates. The Ivory Coast international was close to joining Roma in 2023 after establishing himself as a consistent performer for Crystal Palace.
Instead, Zaha moved to Galatasaray in Turkey before continuing his career with Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer. He is now 33 and available on a free transfer, making him an attractive opportunity for Roma as they look to add experience and attacking ability to their left flank.
The former Crystal Palace winger is not, however, the club’s main priority for its forward positions. Roma continue to regard Rodrigo Mora and Lorenzo Pellegrini as their preferred targets in attack, with Zaha viewed as one of the possible alternatives being assessed by D’Amico.
The shortlist also includes Sadio Diatta, the Senegalese winger who became a free agent after his contract with Monaco expired last season. His availability could make him another realistic option as Roma seek to complete their recruitment on the flank without having to negotiate a transfer fee.
Raphael Guerreiro is also being considered. The 32-year-old Portugal international is capable of playing at left-back and spent last season with Bayern Munich. His versatility could appeal to Gasperini as Roma assess players who can provide both width and flexibility in the final third.
Roma’s interest in a new left-sided player follows the failed move for Leweling and reflects the club’s efforts to find a footballer who fits Gasperini’s tactical demands. The search remains active, with Zaha, Diatta and Guerreiro among the names linked to the position.
The club could yet produce a surprise in the next few days as D’Amico continues to examine the market for available players. Any signing would be intended to improve a weaker area of the squad while supporting Gasperini’s wider attacking plans.
