Rodri has returned to England and is expected to join Manchester City training on Friday, despite Barcelona’s proposed move for the midfielder still not being finalised.
The Manchester City player travelled from Madrid to Liverpool on Thursday evening on a regular Ryanair flight. His arrival was filmed by Jijantes, with the footage showing him reaching Liverpool, a city approximately 50 kilometres from Manchester.
Rodri did not speak to reporters or make any public comments after arriving in England. The Spain international spent a large part of his holiday in Spain following his World Cup triumph, but has now travelled back to England while negotiations over his future remain ongoing.
According to Marca, Rodri is due to report for Manchester City training on Friday because no agreement has yet been reached with Barcelona. The player is expected to wait for the transfer to be resolved before returning to Spain in the coming days.
At present, Barcelona and Manchester City have not reached an agreement over the proposed deal. Barcelona are keen to complete the transfer as quickly as possible, while the English club are seeking to secure the strongest possible financial return from the transaction.
The two sides have moved closer in their positions, but they have still not reached a final settlement. Manchester City want to receive about 70m euros as a guaranteed payment, while Barcelona’s latest offer is understood to be worth 65m euros, including add-ons.
Rodri’s arrival in England therefore comes at a time when his immediate club future remains uncertain. Until the financial terms are resolved, he remains a Manchester City player and is set to take part in training with the club.
The player’s decision not to comment after landing in Liverpool means there has been no public indication from Rodri about the progress of the negotiations. The next stage of the discussions will depend on whether Barcelona can meet Manchester City’s expectations over the fixed fee and additional payments.
For now, the transfer remains incomplete, with the difference between the clubs standing at the level of the guaranteed amount and the value of the proposed variables. Barcelona are pushing to conclude the operation, but Manchester City’s demand for around 70m euros fixed has not yet been matched by the Catalan club’s offer of 65m euros in total.
