Rodri does not expect to train with Manchester City next week as he waits for his proposed move to Barcelona to be completed.
The 30-year-old midfielder has already accepted an offer from the Catalan club and is now waiting for an agreement to be reached between Barcelona and Manchester City. According to journalist Jack Gaughan, Rodri believes the transfer should be finalised by the time Manchester City’s next training week begins.
As a result, the Spain international does not currently intend to report for training with the Premier League club next week. His expectation is that he will instead be completing the formal steps required to join Barcelona.
Barcelona are prepared to offer about €70m for Rodri, while Manchester City are seeking a fee of approximately €80m. Despite the difference in the clubs’ valuations, several sources claim that the two sides are likely to reach a compromise soon.
Rodri has therefore accepted the terms proposed by Barcelona, with the remaining negotiations focused on the transfer fee between the clubs. Until that agreement is reached, however, the move cannot be formally completed.
The midfielder’s decision not to plan for training with Manchester City next week reflects his belief that the discussions will be resolved shortly. The two clubs are still required to settle on the final amount, but the reports indicate that the gap between Barcelona’s offer and Manchester City’s asking price is not expected to prevent the transfer.
Barcelona are willing to pay around €70m, while Manchester City value the player at about €80m. A compromise between those figures would allow the proposed move to proceed, with Rodri already having agreed to join the Spanish club.
For now, Rodri remains a Manchester City player, but the negotiations have reached a stage at which he is anticipating a change of club in the coming days. His immediate future depends on Barcelona and Manchester City finding common ground over the fee.
The reports do not suggest that Rodri is considering continuing his training schedule with Manchester City next week. Instead, he expects the transfer to Barcelona to have been completed by then, bringing the latest stage of the negotiations to an end.
No final agreement between the clubs has yet been confirmed. However, the claims from a number of sources that a settlement is close leave the proposed transfer dependent primarily on the resolution of the financial difference between Barcelona’s offer and Manchester City’s demands.
