Former AC Milan player Ricardo Rodriguez is close to returning to Torino as a free agent, according to Italian journalist Schira.
The 34-year-old is reportedly now only one step away from rejoining the club, after his contract with Real Betis expired this summer. Torino are expected to offer Rodriguez a one-year contract, with the option of extending the agreement for a further season.
Schira reported on 3 September that Torino plan to complete Rodriguez’s medical examination today. If the checks are concluded successfully, the club will then proceed with the formal signing of the contract.
A return to Torino would mark the beginning of a second spell at the club for Rodriguez. The former AC Milan defender previously represented Torino between 2020 and 2024, making 129 appearances during that period.
Across those 129 matches, Rodriguez scored one goal and provided three assists. His previous time with Torino therefore accounts for the majority of his recent club career before his move to Real Betis.
The proposed agreement would be structured as a 1+1 contract, giving Torino the flexibility to retain Rodriguez for an additional year after the initial deal expires. The medical examination is the remaining step before the transfer can be completed, with the club then expected to announce the signing officially.
Rodriguez is currently without a club following the end of his Real Betis contract, meaning Torino can bring him back as a free agent. The move would reunite the player with the club he represented for four seasons from 2020 to 2024.
The report was published by Schira on 3 September and indicates that the negotiations have reached an advanced stage. Torino’s planned medical and subsequent contract signing suggest that the return is close to being finalised, although the deal remains subject to the completion of those formalities.
