Rennes interested in loan move for Eliesse Ben Seghir after difficult Leverkusen spell

Eliesse Ben Seghir could be set for a return to French football after reports claimed Stade Rennais FC are considering a loan move for the Moroccan winger from Bayer 04 Leverkusen this summer.

According to reports circulating in France, Rennes remain interested in the 21-year-old attacker following what has been described as a highly disappointing first season in Germany.

Ben Seghir joined Leverkusen from AS Monaco FC last summer in a deal reportedly worth around €32 million after impressing during three strong campaigns in Ligue 1.

However, the move has not unfolded as expected.

The Moroccan international managed only 15 appearances in all competitions and failed to register either a goal or an assist throughout the campaign. Injuries also disrupted his season significantly, with the winger missing 17 matches.

Despite already earning 20 caps for Morocco national football team, Ben Seghir was ultimately left out of Morocco’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Reports from insider Jonathan on X suggest Rennes continue to revisit the possibility of signing the winger on loan as coach Franck Haise prepares a major rebuild ahead of next season.

Rennes are expected to make several additions this summer after finishing sixth in Ligue 1 and qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

The Breton club reportedly wants to strengthen its attacking options under Haise’s preferred 3-4-3 system, with two new wingers viewed as a priority.

A temporary return to France could offer Ben Seghir the ideal environment to rebuild confidence and rediscover the form that previously made him one of Ligue 1’s most exciting young talents.

For Rennes, the deal would represent a low-risk opportunity to add creativity and quality to their squad ahead of a demanding domestic and European campaign.
