Real Sociedad have had an initial offer for Nayef Aguerd rejected by Olympique de Marseille, although the Spanish club have returned with an improved proposal for the Morocco international.
The Basque club’s first approach was quickly turned down by Marseille, who did not consider the terms sufficient for a player they value at €15m, according to Foot Mercato.
Real Sociedad have since made a new offer based on a paid loan worth €2.5m, with bonuses included and a mandatory purchase option set at €10m. Marseille have also rejected those conditions, but negotiations between the two clubs remain open as they try to reach an overall financial agreement.
Aguerd has already agreed personal terms with Real Sociedad on a five-year contract, meaning the defender is understood to be keen on a move to Spain. The remaining discussions are focused on finding an arrangement acceptable to both clubs.
The 29-year-old is not short of potential destinations this summer. Napoli have also shown significant interest in the Morocco international as they look to strengthen their defence during the transfer window, according to an exclusive report by Africafoot.
That interest from Italy adds to the competition for Aguerd’s signature and gives both the player and Marseille alternative options as negotiations continue. The defender has also attracted attention from the Middle East.
After initial discussions with Al Sadd, Al-Ittihad have now entered the race, according to sources cited in the report. The approaches from Saudi Arabia further increase the number of clubs monitoring the situation of the Marseille defender.
Aguerd, who was born in Kenitra, remains under contract with Marseille until the summer of 2030. He earns an annual salary of €4,910,000 in France, equivalent to 3,191,500,000 FCFA.
The defender’s future is being assessed as Marseille work to manage several possible departures from their squad during the transfer window. Real Sociedad’s interest has so far produced no agreement, but the player’s reported five-year understanding with the Spanish club could become an important factor in the talks.
