Real Madrid believe Eduardo Camavinga’s current difficulties are psychological rather than physical or technical and are determined to help the midfielder recover his confidence, according to AS.
The club remains fully behind Camavinga during what is regarded internally as a particularly delicate period. He was linked with a move away from Real Madrid throughout the summer, and although the club was prepared to consider selling him, it has not withdrawn its support.
Camavinga made it clear that he wanted to remain at Real Madrid and continue his career at the club. Since then, the dressing room and coaching staff have worked with him every day as he attempts to rediscover his form and self-belief.
There were some whistles from supporters during the match against Malaga at the Bernabeu, although the reaction inside the club has been unequivocal: Camavinga continues to have the backing of those at Real Madrid.
The effect those whistles may have on the midfielder in the short term remains uncertain, just as his performances do. However, AS reports that there is a broad internal agreement about the nature of his problem. Real Madrid believe he has suffered a serious loss of confidence, rather than a decline in his physical or technical ability.
The difficult conclusion to last season is thought to have affected Camavinga deeply. His red card away to Bayern and his absence from the World Cup also contributed to the situation. The priority now is to rebuild him mentally.
Within the club, there is no belief that Camavinga has suddenly lost the technical qualities that made him an important part of the squad. As one assessment suggests, a player does not simply forget how to control a ball overnight. Real Madrid’s view is that the issue is psychological.
The transfer situation has been clear for several weeks. The club was open to a sale and had planned to demand at least 70m euros, but no offer close to that valuation has emerged. With Camavinga repeatedly stating that he wants to stay, continue fighting for his place and change his situation, any potential negotiations have effectively stalled.
As a result, Real Madrid do not expect any surprise involving Camavinga during the final days of the transfer window.
He has been working with Mourinho since 13 July, when the club’s “mission” to help him officially began. Their cooperation has been positive, although both recognise that earning a regular starting place will be difficult.
Valverde is already considered indispensable, while Tchouameni and Bernardo Silva are expected to increase the competition for midfield places. Camavinga understands the doubts around him, accepts that his form has dipped and knows he has suffered setbacks, but remains determined to recover.
He is not attempting that comeback alone. Everyone at Valdebebas is united behind him, with the club now treating his recovery as a collective responsibility and seeking to “rescue” Camavinga.
