Real Madrid have completed the signing of Ivory Coast international Yan Diomandé from RB Leipzig in a deal that could make the 19-year-old the most expensive player in the Spanish club’s history.
The La Liga giants confirmed on Thursday that they had reached an agreement with the Bundesliga side for the transfer of the highly rated winger, ending weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.
Diomandé has signed a seven-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 30 June 2033.
The transfer is reportedly worth an initial €125 million, with a further €15 million in performance-related bonuses, taking the total value of the deal to as much as €140 million.
If all the add-ons are triggered, the move will surpass Real Madrid’s previous record transfer and also become the biggest sale in RB Leipzig’s history.
The deal underlines the growing influence of African footballers on the global transfer market, with Diomandé becoming one of the continent’s most valuable exports after a remarkable rise in European football.
The young Ivorian arrives in Madrid after an outstanding campaign with Leipzig, where he established himself as one of Europe’s most exciting attacking talents.
Last season, Diomandé scored 13 goals and registered 10 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions, performances that attracted interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Among those reportedly monitoring the winger were French champions Paris Saint-Germain, but the player ultimately chose to continue his career with the 15-time UEFA Champions League winners.
His impressive displays also earned him recognition on the international stage.
Despite being only 19, Diomandé has already made 14 appearances for the Ivory Coast national team, scoring three goals and further strengthening his reputation as one of African football’s brightest young stars.
For Real Madrid, the signing represents another investment in youth as the club continues to build a squad capable of competing for major honours over the coming years.
The financial scale of the transfer also places Diomandé ahead of some of the biggest names to have joined the Spanish club.
According to the reported figures, his move could exceed the €134 million spent on Jude Bellingham following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund.
It would also surpass the €120 million Real Madrid paid Chelsea for Eden Hazard in 2019.
Other notable transfers in the club’s history include Gareth Bale’s €101 million move from Tottenham Hotspur and Cristiano Ronaldo’s €94 million arrival from Manchester United.
For RB Leipzig, the transfer represents another successful high-value sale after developing one of Europe’s most sought-after young attackers.
The Bundesliga side confirmed the agreement with Real Madrid after Diomandé’s standout campaign placed him firmly on the radar of elite clubs across Europe.
