Real Madrid eye Michael Olise in blockbuster move after World Cup heroics

Real Madrid are preparing a major summer swoop for France star Michael Olise after his standout performances at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, according to reports in France and Germany.

The 24-year-old Bayern Munich winger, born in London, is now viewed as a priority target for the Spanish giants as president Florentino Perez looks to rebuild a side that has gone two seasons without a major trophy.

Olise is said to be “strongly” inclined to join Real Madrid, with his desire to move to the Bernabeu reinforced by France team-mate Kylian Mbappe, who is reported to have played a key role in steering him towards the European champions’ project.

World Cup assist king attracts Madrid

Olise emerged as one of the breakout stars of the 2026 World Cup, finishing as the tournament’s top assist provider with seven assists. That international form followed an exceptional club season with Bayern Munich, where he scored 22 goals and supplied 31 assists in 52 matches.

Those numbers have made a deep impression on Real Madrid’s hierarchy, who are keen to inject fresh creativity and threat on the right wing. Olise is under contract with Bayern until June 2029, but Real are expected to accelerate their efforts to prise him away from Bavaria.

French outlet Foot Mercato reports that Olise “wants very much” to join Real Madrid, where he would be reunited with Aurelien Tchouameni and Mbappe, his team-mates from France’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

Mbappe’s personal pitch to Olise

Mbappe is understood to have been central to the push to bring Olise to the Bernabeu.

According to German newspaper Bild, Olise has already shared his wish to sign for Real Madrid with his France colleagues and has been receptive to Mbappe’s lobbying during the tournament.

The France captain is said to have made it his mission during the World Cup to convince his friend to join him in Madrid. Mbappe reportedly assured Olise of Real Madrid’s determination to sign him and spoke in detail about life in the Spanish capital – “from the restaurants to the climate”.

This pitch appears to have had a significant impact on the Bayern forward. Mbappe has even informed Real Madrid president Perez of the “positive signals” he has received from his compatriot, suggesting the player is open to a move.

Doubts over Bayern’s Champions League prospects

Behind Olise’s growing openness to a transfer are concerns over Bayern Munich’s ability to reclaim the UEFA Champions League in the near future.

The winger is understood to harbour doubts about whether Bayern can quickly return to the summit of European football and believes he could achieve more on the biggest stage with Real Madrid, who see him as a long-term pillar of their next attacking era.

However, Olise is not expected to force an immediate exit. Instead, he plans to hold talks with Bayern’s management to clarify the club’s strategic vision, especially their plans to remain competitive in the Champions League over the coming seasons.

Key talks set to decide Olise’s future

Those discussions in Munich are likely to prove decisive. Olise wants to understand the German club’s ambitions, recruitment strategy and roadmap for returning to Europe’s elite level before making a final decision on his future.

If Bayern cannot fully convince him, Real Madrid are poised to move quickly, encouraged both by his contractual situation and by the powerful endorsement coming from their new marquee signing, Mbappe.

With Olise under a long-term deal and Bayern traditionally reluctant sellers, any transfer would likely require a substantial fee. But with Real Madrid determined to end their recent trophy drought and reshape their attack, all signs point to a summer saga that could define the next phase of both clubs’ European ambitions.
