RB Leipzig shortlist Morocco international Shamsiddine Talbi

RB Leipzig have begun assessing attacking options as they prepare for the expected departure of Ivorian forward Yan Diomande to Real Madrid, with Sunderland winger Shamsiddine Talbi among the players attracting their attention.

According to Foot Mercato, Talbi has emerged as a name of interest to Leipzig’s recruitment team as the German club considers how to strengthen its forward line. The Bundesliga side are understood to be planning for the possibility of losing Diomande and have started looking at potential alternatives in the transfer market.

Talbi, 21, is currently contracted to Sunderland and has established himself as one of the players being considered by Leipzig. The Morocco international has won 10 caps for his country and is valued by the German club for the range of qualities he could offer in attack.

The winger scored four goals in 30 appearances for Sunderland last season. His performances have helped place him on Leipzig’s list of potential targets, although there is no indication at this stage that a deal is close.

Talbi’s pace, ability to beat opponents and tactical flexibility are seen as important strengths. Those attributes could allow him to provide Leipzig with different attacking solutions, particularly because he is capable of operating in more than one role within the forward line.

Despite the reported interest, Leipzig and Sunderland have not yet opened negotiations over a possible transfer. Talbi’s current contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2030, meaning any move would require the two clubs to reach an agreement before discussions could progress further.

For now, Talbi remains a Sunderland player, while Leipzig continue to evaluate their options. The Moroccan’s name has been included among the players admired by the club’s management, but the available information does not suggest that a formal approach has been made.

The transfer situation is linked to Diomande’s expected move to Real Madrid. Should the Ivorian complete that departure, Leipzig would need to decide whether to pursue Talbi or turn to another attacking target. At present, the Moroccan winger is one of the candidates under consideration rather than the subject of an active deal.

His international experience, despite his age, and his contribution of four goals last season have contributed to Leipzig’s interest. However, with no contact yet established between Leipzig and Sunderland, any potential transfer remains at an early stage.
