Marcus Rashford’s return to Manchester United has created tension within the squad and unsettled the club’s attacking structure, according to journalist Alex Crook.
Crook said Rashford’s presence had affected other players, with Matheus Cunha particularly unhappy after losing his place. He also questioned whether Rashford’s performances justified his high salary.
“I think his return has become a problem,” Crook said. “Some players in the locker room might be resentful, given his extremely high salary. Cunha has also been affected because Rashford has taken his place, and you can see that Cunha is quite unhappy.”
The comments come amid a broader assessment of Manchester United’s attacking options. Crook said the team had previously enjoyed a better balance, with Cunha, Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo and a fit Sesko forming the front line last season.
He stressed that his criticism was not directed at Rashford personally, but at the impact his return had had on the rest of the team.
“It’s not about Rashford personally, but rather other players in the team feeling aggrieved,” Crook said. “I believe he has disrupted the balance of the attacking system, and his current statistics absolutely do not justify this enormous salary.”
According to Crook, the issue is therefore both tactical and related to squad dynamics, with Rashford’s return changing the roles previously occupied by other attacking players.
