Raphinha injury raises doubts over Barcelona forward’s fitness for Getafe

Raphinha missed Barcelona’s full training session on Thursday, increasing uncertainty over whether he will be available for the club’s match against Getafe.

The Brazil international continued to work individually in the gym instead of joining his team-mates on the pitch. According to Carlos Monfort, Sport’s chief Barcelona correspondent, Raphinha took part in specialised rehabilitation as he continues his recovery from a thigh problem.

Spain’s senior and Under-21 internationals returned to training, while Anthony Gordon and Livakovic also rejoined the group session.

Raphinha cut short a Brazil training session after the match against Australia because of slight muscle oedema in his right thigh. A medical examination carried out after he returned to Barcelona ruled out a muscle tear.

Barcelona had originally hoped the 28-year-old might be able to complete part of Thursday’s team training. However, he remained in the gym, meaning his involvement against Getafe is now in doubt.

Head coach Flick is expected to take a cautious approach to Raphinha’s recovery and will not risk selecting him before he is ready. Barcelona’s priority is for the forward to make a full recovery and overcome the physical problem without aggravating it.

The club will continue to assess his condition before deciding whether he can take part in the fixture.
