Rangers have confirmed that striker Youssef Chermiti will spend a significant period on the sidelines after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The 22-year-old forward sustained the injury during Rangers’ match against Hibernian on Sunday after colliding with the pitchside advertising boards at Ibrox.
Chermiti was forced to leave the field during the first half, immediately raising concerns about the severity of the setback. He was later seen leaving the stadium wearing a protective boot and knee brace.
Following further medical assessment, Rangers confirmed that the striker had suffered damage to his ACL and faces an extended period away from competitive football.
“Following assessment, striker Youssef Chermiti suffered an ACL injury in Sunday’s match with Hibernian. Youssef will be out of action for a significant period of time.
“Everyone at Rangers is with him as he begins his recovery,” the club said.
The injury is a major setback for Chermiti, who had been hoping to establish himself as an important attacking option for Rangers.
ACL injuries typically require lengthy rehabilitation, leaving the forward facing a long road back to full fitness.
Rangers will now have to reassess their attacking options while Chermiti begins his recovery programme. The club and its supporters will be hoping for a successful rehabilitation and eventual return to action for the young striker.
