Algeria have travelled to Burundi ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier as the Greens look to follow up their opening victory over Zambia with another three points.
The national team delegation left Algeria on Sunday morning for Bujumbura, where they will face Burundi in the second round of the qualifying campaign.
The match is scheduled to take place at the Intwari Stadium at 14:00 Algerian time, with Algeria entering the fixture aiming to secure their second consecutive victory.
The Greens made an impressive start to their qualification campaign last Friday, defeating Zambia 3-1.
That result put Algeria at the top of Group 9 on goal difference after the opening round of matches. Togo also began its campaign with a win, beating Burundi 1-0.
Algeria will now attempt to maintain their position at the top of the group when they take on Burundi.
The match will also represent a second test for national coach Ibrahim Hamdani since joining the technical staff of the national team.
Hamdani will be hoping his players can produce another winning performance after their positive start against Zambia.
The squad resumed training on Saturday following the opening match, with preparations continuing before the trip to Burundi.
The players are expected to have a recovery session after arriving in Bujumbura to help them deal with the fatigue from their previous fixture and the journey.
Algeria will then hold their main training session on Monday at the Intwari Stadium, the same venue where Tuesday’s qualifier will be played.
The timing of the session is expected to correspond with the kick-off time of the match, allowing the players to prepare at the venue ahead of the game.
However, Algeria will make the trip without two players who featured in the team’s plans for the international window.
Defender Rayan Aït-Nouri has been left out of the travelling group after being excluded from the training camp for disciplinary reasons.
The Manchester City defender was released from the Algeria camp following an incident during the 3-1 victory over Zambia.
Striker Amine Gouiri will also miss the trip to Burundi because of injury.
The forward suffered a thigh injury during the match against Zambia and was subsequently released from the squad.
His absence leaves Algeria without another attacking option as the team prepares for Tuesday’s fixture.
Despite those setbacks, the Greens will travel to Bujumbura with confidence following their three-goal performance against Zambia.
Their opening victory gave them an early advantage in the group, and another win would further strengthen their position as the qualifying campaign develops.
For Hamdani, Tuesday’s match provides an opportunity to claim a second victory in his second test with the national team.
Algeria’s preparations will continue in Burundi with the recovery session followed by Monday’s final training session.
The Greens will then face the hosts at the Intwari Stadium on Tuesday at 14:00 Algerian time, hoping to make it two wins from two matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
