Raja Casablanca face Paco Jemez uncertainty after defeat by Renaissance Berkane

Raja Casablanca’s crisis deepened after they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Renaissance Berkane in the Moroccan league on Sunday, a result that has placed coach Paco Jemez’s future in serious doubt after he failed to deliver the victory demanded by the club’s management.

The defeat came at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane during the sixth round of the Moroccan league and dealt another blow to Raja’s hopes of recovering from their disappointing start to the campaign.

For Jemez, the loss could prove particularly costly. The Spanish coach had reportedly been given one final opportunity to save his position after a meeting with the club’s management earlier in the week, during which he was asked to secure victory against Renaissance Berkane.

However, his team failed to meet that demand, leaving his position increasingly uncertain as the club considers its next move.

Renaissance Berkane punish Raja’s defensive weaknesses

Raja struggled to match the intensity of their hosts and found it difficult to create a meaningful response as Renaissance Berkane gradually took control of the encounter.

The home side broke the deadlock in the 29th minute through Youssef Mehri, who gave his team the advantage and put further pressure on the visitors.

Raja were unable to find an equaliser before the interval, allowing Renaissance Berkane to take a 1-0 lead into the break.

The visitors attempted to change the direction of the contest after half-time, with Khamis making several adjustments to his formation in an effort to improve the team’s attacking threat.

Despite those changes, Raja could not find a way past their opponents’ defence. Their attempts to get back into the match produced little reward, while Renaissance Berkane remained organised and continued to manage their advantage.

The hosts eventually put the result beyond doubt five minutes from the end of normal time.

Yassine Bahiri converted a penalty in the 85th minute to make it 2-0, securing Renaissance Berkane’s first victory of the league campaign and leaving Raja with another disappointing result.

Jemez’s future at Raja hangs in the balance

The defeat has intensified the uncertainty surrounding Jemez’s position, particularly because the match against Renaissance Berkane had been presented as a decisive test of his ability to remain in charge.

Raja’s management had met the Spanish tactician earlier in the week to discuss the team’s recent results and performances.

During those discussions, the coach was reportedly informed that victory against Renaissance Berkane was necessary if he wanted to retain his position.

The club’s hierarchy had hoped that a positive result would provide an opportunity to revive the team’s campaign and restore confidence in the technical project.

Instead, the defeat has further weakened Jemez’s position, with growing indications that his time at the Moroccan club could be approaching its conclusion.

In a related development, Raja have decided to bring Abdelkrim El Jennani into the technical staff as part of measures intended to improve the team’s performances and prepare for the challenges ahead.

The decision comes amid increasing speculation over the coaching situation and the possibility of further changes to the technical department.

Jemez’s failure to take advantage of what was considered his final opportunity has therefore left the club facing an important decision over who should lead the team in the coming period.

Renaissance Berkane claim first victory of the season

The result also had an impact on the Moroccan league standings, with Renaissance Berkane finally recording their first victory of the campaign.

The win moved the Orange side to seven points, placing them 12th in the table after six rounds.

Raja, meanwhile, remained on six points and dropped into 13th position, further highlighting the difficulties they have experienced during the opening stages of the season.

While Renaissance Berkane can take encouragement from their first success, Raja face a period of uncertainty both on and off the pitch.

The immediate attention will now turn to the management’s decision on Jemez’s future and whether the club will make another change to its coaching structure in an attempt to reverse its disappointing run.

For the Spanish coach, the defeat has made an already difficult situation considerably more complicated, with the victory he needed to secure his position ultimately going to his opponents.
